Govt. Polytechnic, Ambala City, started 3 years Diploma courses in Civil Engg., Electrical Engg., Mechanical Engg. In 1958. Four more disciplines were added after 1958. PROFILE

Govt. Polytechnic, Ambala City  is situated in the heart of Ambala City. This city is known for its production of scientific instruments all over the world. It is also well known as city of mixies. It is a main junction station connecting the main stations of Northern India. At present, it is witnessing the very good growth of industries in an around the city. In the changing scenario, when the multi-national companies are attracted towards India, the surroundings of this city is also not lagging behind. As such dynamic entrepreneurs have come forward to establish good number of different types of industries creating employment opportunities.

HISTORY

The institute which began as Government/ Industrial School in 1929 & later on developed to Metal Works Institute in 1933, was recognized in 1948 & was thereafter known as Government Technical Institute. In 1958, the Institution was renamed as Government Polytechnic. It is situated on Ambala City- Chandigarh road at a distance of 1 K.M. from the Bus Stand & 1.5 K.m. from the Railway Station. The institution is spread over a land area of 24.6 acres.

I.I.I.C.

Industry Institute Interaction Cell headed by the Training & Placement Officer has been establishment to develop a close rapport with industry. The cell performs the following activities :

1.      To hold advisory committee meeting

2.      To arrange Educational tours/ Industrial visits for the students.

3.      To arrange extension lectures for the students by inviting professionals from industry / field.

4.      To arrange apprenticeship training for the passed out students.

5.      To make contact with industries for placement of passed out students by way of campus interview / correspondence

6.      To exchange relevant information of mutual interests.

7.      To co-ordinate training / short term courses for staff.

8.   To handle alumni affairs, including maintenance of all relevant details of pass out students and alumni association.

A bus & jeep have been provided by the department. to carry out above activities smoothly. Number of industries such as ICL (Rajpura), Hero Honda (Dharuhera), Sona Steering (Gurgaon), Murad International (Ambala), Radical Instruments (Ambala), Atul Fasterners (Mohali), Varpar International (Chandigarh), Deltron (Chandigarh) , Groz-Beckert (Chandigarh), Steel Strips Wheels (Dappar), Essar Communication (Mohali), Atlas Cycle (Ludhiana), Pragati Silicons (Yamunanagar), Tara-BKF, Rural Technology (Delhi), Binary Digital System (Ambala ), Classics Pistons (Ambala), Sonalika International Tractors Ltd. (Hoshiarpur), Purolator (Parwanoo), Punj Llyod (New Delhi), HCL Info System Ltd. (Chandigarh), National Controlling Equipment Industries (Ambala ) , have recruited our passed out students.
