The scheme of community Polytechnics was started during the year 1978-79. Under the scheme, identified AICTE approved polytechnics are selected to act as focal points to promote transfer of technology and rural/ community development on scientific line, under the direct central assistance of Govt. of India.

The Financial grant is provided by MHRD directly to AICTE approved polytechnics. As on date, there are 18 Community Polytechnics in Haryana.

Following are the main objectives of the scheme :

1. To ascertain the felt-needs of the Community through techno-economic-social survey, job potential survey etc;
2. To act as focal points for technology transfers;
3. To train youth, women and other disadvantaged groups in the employable skills;
4. To disseminate information and create awareness regarding developmental programmes for creating a problem solving environment.
