COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT
CELL
The Ministry of Human Resource Development,. Govt. of India, selected Govt. Polytechnic, Hisar in 1998, as Community Polytechnic. The areas of activities taken under this scheme are:-
1. SOCIO ECONOMIC SURVEY & PLANNING
To identify the needs and job potential in the rural areas.
2. MAN POWER DEVELOPMENT & TRAINING
To train young persons specially rural youth in basic skill.
3. TRANSFER OF TECHNOLOGIES
To improve quality of life in the rural areas.
4. SUPPORT SERVICES
To enterd help priority needs like drinking water, low cost housing etc.
5. TECHNICAL SERVICES
Awareness through services camps.
6. DISSEMINATION OF INFORMATION
For creating awareness on various development schemes and ways for improving quality of life in villages.
The Community Development Cell of this Polytechnic has established 47 extension centers for imparting 6 months training in different trades and has trained 2925 unemployed youths. This training is provided free of cost. At present 320 rural youths are under training in the Institution and eight Extension Centre.
It has provided technical services to about 50 villages through camps.
The technical support services and transfer of technology has also benefited about 60 villages around Hisar through Community Development Centre.
PERSONS WITH DISABILITY SCHEME
In accordance with “National Policy on Eduction – 1986” and “The Persons with Disabilities Act – 1995”, the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India, envisaged a Centrally Sponsored Scheme for upgrading some of the selected polytechjnics to integrate the persons with disabilities in the mainstream of Technical and Vocational Education. Govt. Polytechnic Hisar is one of three Polytechnics selected in Haryana to implement this scheme in 2001-2002. The main components of this scheme are :-
FORMAL PROGRAMMES :-
In this component five students in each branch are admitted in the regular courses being run by the Polytechnic. There is provision of scholarship, travelling allowance, free boarding to the hostellers, book and uniform allowance to the students admitted under this scheme.
NON
FORMAL PROGRAMMES:-
In this component short duration skill development courses are run by the Polytechnic to train persons with disabilities so as to make them self dependent to earn their livelihood.
LEARNING RESOURCES UTILIZATION CENTRE
The need for
improving the quality and instructional system in the polytechnics to produce
high quality technicians matching with the ever changing scenario and the
requirements of the industry is undisputed. Accordingly in this Institute, a
wing called L.R.U.C. (Learning Resources Utilization Centre) has been set up to
make teaching learning process more effective and relevant to technological
advancements under the World Bank Project on Development and Management of
Technical Education.
This institute has already procured the equipments and materials such as Model, Charts, Slides & Slide Projectors, OHPs, Video Cassettes, TVs, VCRs, VCPs, Data Video Projectors, Digital Camera and using these for making the teaching instructions more effective and practical by providing necessary print and non-print resources to the teachers. This centre has photo printers, comb binding machine, lamination facilities etc.
INDUSTRY INSTITUTE INTERACTION CELL
Industry Institute Interaction Cell was established in this
institute in 1992 has an important role to play in promoting interaction with
the industries, providing quality education, arranging more employability and
need based training to the students and as well staff. I.I.I.Cell has the
following objectives: -
OBJECTIVES OF
INDUSTRY INSTITUTE INTERACTION
The objectives of this activity are:-
o Expectations of industry especially from post liberalization and fast changing.
o Working environment in the industry
o Need for student orientation to industrial disciplines
o On-the-job descriptions of technical persons working at different levels
o Current Industrial practices and their integration in technical education and their implementation aspects.
ACTIVITIES UNDER
INDUSTRY- INSTITUTE INTERACTION
A wide variety of activities has been taken up in collaboration with industry to improve the quality of pass outs. The scope of the scheme is to promote industry-institute interaction in improving the quality of pass outs. All concerned have freedom to think of additional inputs from industry, relate them to functions of technical education system, ultimate outcomes and system improvement. Some of the major activities in the area of industry-institute interaction are: -
The students are provided training in the industries in the
relevant fields and teachers are also exposed to industrial
innovatives.
The students are exposed to industrial environment,
machinery, equipments, manufacturing process and field practices. The minimum
two industrial visits are planned in each semester.
Various extension and expert lectures are organized in
various fields for students.
All the students have to prepare one major and one minor project and students are preparing the utility items in their workshop practices.
The evaluation of students is carried out by associating
practising engineers and experts from industry.
Industry – Institute Interaction Cell is organizing career
opportunities, seminars and conferences.
With the industrial globalisation, the enterprises have to be developed by the budding engineers so six week entrepreneurship development programmes are regularly organized in the institute in collaboration with banks and other agencies.
There is a great potential of existing statutory provisions
under the apprenticeship act for providing industrial exposure and inhand
experience. Various seats are provided to the institute by Board of
Entrepreneurship Training, Kanpur for Graduate Engineers, Diploma Engineers
& I.T.I./Vocational Technicians.
