DEPARTMENT OF MECHANICAL ENGINEERING

In order to meet out the growing demand of trained diploma engineers from both the private and public sectors undertakings all across the country, the department of Mechanical Engineering came into existence in the year 1964 with the beginning of three year diploma course in Mechanical Engineering. This department has made its presence felt all across the country in both the private and public sector undertakings. The diploma engineers produced by this department have been serving in various industries in the fields of automobile, fasteners, tool designing, machine tools production, railways, metro, manufacturing & service industries etc.

The department has well qualified and experienced faculty. It has also on its panel, a galaxy of reputed academicians and professionals who have been visiting the department to deliver lectures and expose the students to real life experiences of mechanical engineering field.

The department has always been looking forward to update its faculty and modernize its labs in order to accommodate the changes made in the curricula and as per the requirements of industries from time to time The necessary feed back for the same is provided by our industry-institution interaction cell. Latest machines & equipments were added to the labs of the department during implementation of World Bank assisted project. The department has continuously sponsoring its faculty members to attend various short term courses organized by different institutes/industries and by NTTTI, Chandigarh in particular so that they can update themselves about the various advancements in the field of mechanical engineering.

The department has been equipped with all kinds of facilities required for mechanical engineering such as all standard labs, workshop and well stocked departmental library. Recently a project report has been submitted to AICTE by the department under MODROBS scheme to release agrant of Rs.15.00 lacs so that the few more sophisticated instruments/equipments could be added to its labs. The various experiments as detailed in the curriculum are performed in these labs. Besides this the students are made conversant with the working of CNC machines. Primarily the training is given on CNC trainer lathe machine & CNC training milling machine in the department itself & then the students are taken on Industrial visits to various industries where they take demonstration/production type CNC machines. Moreover the department is well aware about the importance of CAD for mechanical engineering students and the same has been arranged for the students of 2nd & final year with the help of some private agency which has a good experience in the said field.
